Why I Cut My Hair

January 27, 2019

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Uterine Fibroids. These two things have become the bane of my existence lately. I’ve been dealing with PCOS for quite some time now, and I only recently found out that I also have fibroids. The two together, are quite the nuisance. Aside from extremely painful and wonky periods, one of the symptoms that both of these have in common is hair loss.

Just in case you were wondering…

PCOS is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods, and the ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid (follicles or cysts).

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years. Although uterine fibroids usually aren’t dangerous, they can cause discomfort and may lead to complications such as anemia from heavy blood loss.

After noticing some excessive shedding, I decided to take the leap and chop all of my hair off. This was my attempt to get ahead of the issue, research, and start rehabbing my scalp to combat any potential hair loss. Take a look at the video below for more of my thoughts on why I did the big chop.
